This painting was inspired by a wonderful photograph 'Smoke on the water', by my very good pal Debbie. Her evocative photo reminded me so much of my miss spent youth, riding around 'The Black Country' on these barges, that I just had to paint it. I have used just a little artist license, which I hope Debbie likes.

OH BRIAN!!! I can't find enough words for this. I am so PLEASED. WOW you have taken a simple photo I took and made it into something as perfect as this. I'm gobsmacked and so honored that you have done this. For once I would actually buy a print of this if you had one... don't know where I would put it.. but this is just.... :no: oh I can't believe it .. it's just amazing. This is one I will have to keep looking at over and over. I loved my photo so much but to see it like this.... I know anyone who reads this will think I'm going on but I really can't explain enough what this means to me.

Wow, from a distance it looks like a train half sunk in the water, it really sparked my imagination. I love the colors, and how they still look shaded.

Ngaio Marsh's character Agatha Troy took a journey through those waters and I loved it. I also enjoyed the fens in the The Golden Compass books ... but you brought it to life for me here!
